Types of electric garage doors

Electric garage doors can make life easier or just add a bit of luxury to your daily routine. Here at Mansfield Garage Doors, we prefer to use Hormann motor systems as we trust this brand, having used it for over 30 years. They are certified, safe and reliable. We install mainly, their ProMatic and SupraMatic systems.

Most types of doors can be automated, however, for older garage doors, we would need to assess the condition and age of the door in order to be able to say whether it was viable or not. Canopy up and over type garage doors are not as easily automated as the retractable type but it can be done with a bow arm installation. Sectional garage doors are easily automated at installation stage but a motor can be added at a later stage, as can be done with a retractable up and over type. Roller garage doors are also easily automated and most come as electrically operated as standard.

On single width garage doors, we would usually install Hormann’s ProMatic motor system, whereas on double width garage doors or particularly heavier doors, we would install a SupraMatic motor system.

If you are thinking about purchasing an electric garage door, it would be prudent to ensure there is electric in the garage. If not, the Hormann ProMatic Akku is a battery operated garage door motor, which can be installed no problem.
