Which is best: Sectional Garage Door or Roller Door?

We very often have customers visit our showroom who don’t fully understand the difference between a sectional garage door and a roller garage door. At first glance, they can seem quite similar but when you look a little closer, there are many differences which make one more ideally suited to a particular customer than the other. In our extensive showroom, we have both rollers and sectionals so we can show you the differences. Below are some of our installations, firstly of a set of 3 sectional garage doors and 2 roller doors in red.

They both go up and down in a vertical operation, so in this respect, are similar. The roller door rolls up around a barrel above the lintol and the sectional garage door retracts back on tracks which go horizontally back into the garage.

For a roller door to fit, you need more headroom than you would for a sectional garage door and some would say the roller door is a neater option as it frees up space in the garage, especially if you use roof space for storage for instance. The sectional garage door, we feel, has many more benefits. They are very secure and they are twice the thickness of a roller door at 42mm, so double the insulation too. Both rollers and sectionals are draught proof and are a sealed unit once closed.
