If you are concerned that your garage door cables are worn or have snapped, repair is normally a professional job.
Garage door cables run down each side of the garage door and coil around a cone in the top corner of the garage door. If tensioned correctly, they hold the entire weight of the garage door and enable it to go up and down correctly and with ease. If one cable snaps, all the tension transfers to the other cable, causing a huge amount of strain on that cable. Several things can go wrong with the cable and any attempt to repair, if carried out by a non-competent person can cause damage to the garage door and/or injury to the person repairing it.
If tension is lost and the cable breaks, it can cause serious injury so care and vigilance is paramount. If the garage door is misaligned, then using it without correct tension and correctly operating cables can cause damage to the garage door.
If your garage door is stuck open, it may mean your cables are at fault. Cables can be cut and the door lowered down by two people, one at each end, slowly and carefully. This will ensure the door can be secured, until an engineer is available to attend site.
If the cable is simply slack or frayed slightly, it will not do the job intended and new cables are required, to be fitted by a competent person.
Give Mansfield Garage Doors a call on 01623 621999 and one of our factory trained engineers will come and repair your garage door and fit new cones and cables if required. Sometimes, your current cones and cables (if in good repair) can be re-fitted and tensioned correctly to have your garage door working as good as new again.
A service repair costs £75 and the cost of cones and cables is currently £22. Click here for repairs and spares.
